Have you ever heard about the expression VEP?
VEPs are Very Experienced People. Usually people over 50.
In various countries such as Germany, the US and UK (- so far found on
the WWW), they are the new VIPs.
Advantages: people over 50 have got a lot of experience, among those:
skills in problem solving, no need to climb the career ladder anymore, mostly
satisfied with themselves i.e. balanced and able to concentrate on the
essential, cool, calm and concentrated. And, of course much more advantages. (You
will find related links at the end of the text).
In Germany a CEO put all of the above mentioned into one sentence:
New brooms sweep clean but old ones know where the real dirt is.
The boom went to getting back CEOs from their retirement and put them
back in charge. Procter & Gamble and Infosys are only two among
many.
There are a lot of people who think we (the ones over 50) beca/ome low
and would/will not learn anything anymore. On my opinion that is not true. We
might not do all as others do, for example we might not cross the street
concentrated on our smart phone and provoke an accident, because we don't watch
the traffic anymore. We rather do things "the old-fashioned
way" i.e. with common sense. Means: we first watch and listen and only
then we cross the street; i.e. we fully concentrate on our tasks/jobs.
Sometimes the "old stuff/habits" is/are not really outdated.
Our parents knew many things we did not listen to when we were young. Today it
is totally hip and we might catch ourselves doing and telling exactly what they
told us. Experience pays. Best mix is to put VEPs and young ones together - as
in the Stone Ages. The youngsters will be able to learn from the experienced
foxes and the VEPs learn how to deal for example with the virtual world,
faster. Conclusion: it is "only" a Win-Win.
Don't think "OLD" - think VEP; because: you will become
one, too.
